West Africa is a fast-growing and thriving remittance and payments region providing one of the largest revenue streams for our client; one of the biggest international players in the remittance space.The region continues to present enormous growth potential across Senegal, Cote d Ívoire, Benin, Sierra Leone and Mali hence they are looking to add an experienced and hands-on Head of West Africa / Cameroon Country Manager to their already talented team. (Reporting to the MD for the Middle East and Africa)

Our client has successfully built and established relationships with a wide variety of correspondents ranging from mobile operators, banks and financial institutions, however, there remains an opportunity to selectively expand their network whilst optimising their existing network to provide a vast and seamless choice of payout options for their customers. They are exploring the opportunity to expand their services into West Africa with the aim of their customers being able to send money across the region or out of Africa either through partnerships or securing relevant licenses to operate.

The Head of West Africa/Cameroon Country Manager will be highly experienced,driven and well-networked with their main focus being to maintain and grow the business across West Africa. Using their broad understanding of the market and networks,their aim will be to increase there venue by generating new business opportunities with target organisations by championing our client's ethos and social mission!

Main Responsibilities;

  • Setting a strategic vision and turning it into a reality
  • Growing our client across key countries identified as targets(additional countries may be added)
  • Creating strategic partnerships whilst engaging existing partnerships(deepening the relationship and accelerating growth)
  • Striking ‘win-win’ deals to act as a catalyst to customer acquisition and increased volume growth
  • Setting up co-branded marketing between our client and the correspondent with the aim of growing the company's brand in the region
  • Driving a positive return on investment by supplementing in-country marketing activities
  • Working closely with the communications and marketing team in London for support and idea exchanges
  • Supporting the license application working with internal and external stakeholders(law firms / central banks)
  • Analyse the market to identify where suitable opportunities lie
  • Rapidly creating a commercial plan for the region which prioritises the most profitable opportunities
  • Leveraging on connections to penetrate the senior decision-making cadre within the target organisations
  • Structuring the deals and acting as a trusted relationship manager thereafter
  • Use broad insight into consumer trends in the region to generate ideas with the London-based product team to enhance our client's services
  • Acting as a true ambassador for our client under all circumstances


Mandatory Requirements / Qualifications;

  • In-depth understanding of the regulatory landscape as it relates to international remittances and mobile money
  • Skills and experience engaging with senior officials within central banks / regulators (ensuring the company’s business remains compliant and licensed to operate)
  • A proven Business Development professional and relationship builder (having sold to the highest level of target organisations)
  • Consumer technology / banking / payments / remittance background
  • Strong commercial acumen and relationship management skills
  • Strategic, analytical, product mindset
  • Autonomous self-management as well as impeccable communication and collaboration skills
