A Global Software organisation is searching for a Legal Counsel to assist them with numerous high profile acquisitions across the continent. As their Legal Counsel, your focus will be on the expansion of their operations in Africa by acquisition. 

The business is focused on delivering financial inclusion across Africa - safely connecting people with the places, opportunities, and experiences that they truly care about.The Legal Counsel will be instrumental in helping secure acquisition targets across numerous service lines -including digital content discovery, e-commerce, FinTech, and mobile payments.

The ideal candidate would be someone who would be excited to work in a global, ever-changing environment.Their businesses are expanding rapidly and they need a business-minded ‘do’er’ that will take charge and help move their company forward. You will be responsible for providing hands-on legal support for a series of strategic acquisitions in a diverse range of countries and regulated industries across Africa

Main Responsibilities;
  • Qualifying opportunities, supporting business development teams in assessing potential acquisition targets against business requirements
  • Due diligence, managing due diligence and change of control processes related to acquisition targets and their regulators
  • Contracting, managing contract negotiations and closing processes
  • Integration, following up on post-acquisition integration of acquired companies and their businesses
  • Regulatory, establishing and following up on regulatory matters including renewal of licenses
  • Reporting, and keeping the groups General Counsel informed of the progress of the foregoing tasks
  • Management of a lean team

Requirements

Mandatory Requirements / Qualifications;

  • Currently licensed to practice law
  • 7+ years of legal experience
  • Extensive experience with mergers and acquisitions in multiple African countries
  • Experience with e-commerce, mobile payments, FinTech and/or micro-lending will be a plus
  • Willingness to engage in periodic travel to the different offices in the region
  • Understanding and interest in technology and the internet
